Moving Tips

  • 1.) Confirm your reservation has all the details including:

Before moving day, take time to carefully review your reservation to ensure every detail is accurate and complete. This includes verifying both origin and destination addresses, specific entrance locations (such as apartment units, loading docks, or alley access), and your contact information. Additionally, confirm that your inventory list, moving date, and arrival window match your expectations so there are no delays or unexpected issues on moving day.

  • 2.) Pack things you will need right away

Set aside a personal essentials bag with items you’ll need immediately upon arrival at your new home. This should include a few changes of clothes, toiletries, medications, phone chargers, keys, important documents, and any daily necessities. Keeping these items with you ensures easy access and eliminates the stress of searching through boxes after a long moving day.

  • 3.) DIY Packing to Save Time & Money

Packing your own belongings is one of the most effective ways to reduce moving costs. By handling the majority of the packing yourself, you allow movers to focus on heavier, bulkier, or more complex items that require professional handling. This not only speeds up the overall process but also helps you stay within budget while maintaining efficiency.

  • 4.) Move Your Own Valuable

Always keep high-value and irreplaceable items with you during the move. This includes cash, jewelry, important documents, and sentimental belongings that cannot be easily replaced. Transporting these items personally gives you peace of mind and ensures they remain secure throughout the entire moving process.

  • 5.) Clear hallways and doorways of obstruction

Make sure all walkways, hallways, staircases, and doorways are completely clear before movers arrive. Removing obstacles such as furniture, rugs, or clutter allows for a safer and more efficient moving process. Clear pathways reduce the risk of damage to your belongings and property while also helping movers work quickly and effectively.

  • 6.) Tape boxes on the top and bottom

Properly sealing your boxes is essential to protecting your belongings during transit. Use strong packing tape to secure both the top and bottom seams of each box, reinforcing heavier boxes as needed. This prevents boxes from breaking open while being carried or stacked, ensuring your items stay safe and contained.

  • 7.) Clear Labeling

Label every box clearly with its contents and the room it belongs in at your new location. Including handling instructions such as “Fragile,” “This Side Up,” or “Heavy” helps movers handle items appropriately. Organized labeling also makes unpacking faster and more efficient, saving you time and frustration.

  • 8.) Theres no such thing as being too cautious when it comes to your valuables.

When it comes to delicate or breakable items, it’s always better to overprotect than risk damage. Use plenty of packing materials such as bubble wrap, packing paper, and padding to cushion items and prevent movement inside the box. Properly packed fragile items are far more likely to arrive safely, even during long-distance moves.

  • 9.) Disconnect washers and or ice machines

Many moving companies do not handle the disconnection of appliances like washers, dryers, or refrigerators with ice makers. Be sure to have these items properly disconnected, drained, and ready before movers arrive. Preparing ahead of time prevents delays and ensures your moving day stays on schedule.

  • 10.) Do Not Include Hazardous or Flammable Items

For safety and legal reasons, professional movers cannot transport hazardous or flammable materials. This includes items such as gasoline, propane tanks, ammunition, fireworks, and certain chemicals. Be sure to properly dispose of these items or transport them yourself in accordance with local regulations to avoid delays or complications on moving day.
